Finding visual evidence of mold in your home is a problem, and it should be taken seriously, no matter what surface it appears on. If you spot mold in your home, use these steps as a guideline for your approach.
If there’s an area of your home that always seem to be wet — like your basement, bathroom, or attic — that is a major warning sign. Remember, it doesn’t take long for mold to begin growing.
It doesn’t matter how small it may look, or how contained it seems to be. You may not be seeing all of the mold that is present. It could be hiding behind a wall or cabinet and continuing to grow.
If mold is showing up on a variety of different surfaces, like walls, clothing, carpets, and furniture, there is probably a source somewhere else that is releasing vast amounts of mold spores into your home’s air, causing multiple areas of growth. It may be quite a bit worse than it appears on the surface, too, as mold can infiltrate deep into wood and drywall.
Whatever you do, do not attempt to remove the mold yourself under any circumstances. Do not cut into walls with visible spores to find the source yourself. Do not rip out carpets, ceilings, dry wall, etc. that are moldy. This sends millions of spores flying into the air that will circulate throughout your home, and the problem will get even worse.
Remember mold is a fungus, and can cause health problems. So, the last thing you want to do is cause large quantities of mold spores to become airborne in your home. Dealing with mold issues can be extremely stressful, but it’s well worth it to protect your home and family’s health.
If any of these conditions exist in your home, contact a mold removal professional immediately.
